Akwa Ibom Assembly confirms Paul Ekpo as SUBEB boss

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Paul Ekpo as Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The House also approved other appointments into the SUBEB board.

It followed a letter from State Governor Udom Emmanuel to the House to ratify the names.

During plenary on February 16, the resolution was reached after a report brought in by the Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petition, Barr Victor Ekwere. He described, in the report, the nominees as people with credible credentials and with proven integrity.

Motion for the confirmation and ratification of the nominees was brought by the member representing Etinan State Constituency, Deputy Leader of the House, Barr Aniefiok Akpan. It was seconded by Mr KufreAbasi Edidem member, Itu State Constituency.

The Speaker, Aniekan Bassey mandated the Clerk to convey the position of the Assembly to Governor Emmanuel for further actions.

The plenary was adjourned to 23 February 2021.

In another development, ‘A Bill for a Law to establish Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency and for Other Matters Connected Therewith’ sponsored by Honourable Udeme Otong, Abak, passed first reading today.
