Two Key Northern Politicians That Can Be The Next PDP National Chairman Ahead Of 2023

Two northerners can be the next national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the upcoming presidential election. The chairmanship position of the opposition party has been zoned to the northern part of the country after the exit of Prince Uche Secondus who used to be the national chairman of the party. The leaders of the opposition party have given the northerners a choice to fill the vacant seat in the party.

The leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State filed a case against the former national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus at the court of law. They claimed that Secondus has engaged himself in many anti-party activities, and he needed to be suspended as a member of the party. It should be noted that Secondus was not suspended as the national chairman of the party, but as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at large. It is in the rules and regulations of the party that any suspended member of the party cannot hold a position in the party again.

The leaders of the party have concluded to fill the vacant position with a northerner, and there are two northern politicians who can be the national chairman of the party. Although there are many politicians who are capable to direct the conventional affairs of the party in the northern part of the country, these two politicians still stand out among others in the northern part of the country.

1. Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar is the first politician on this list who can replace Prince Uche Secondus as the national chairman of the party. Atiku Abubakar has been a member of the opposition party for a very long time because he ruled alongside former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the beginning of the fourth republic in Nigeria. Atiku Abubakar knows many things about the structure of the party, and he should consider overseeing the affairs of the party as the national chairman.

Atiku Abubakar was chosen as the flag bearer of the party in the last presidential election, and he failed the opposition party by losing. He was defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari due to some unavoidable circumstances that occurred to him. Atiku Abubakar will want to contest again in the year 2023, but people will not want him to be the flag bearer of the party this time around because of what happened in the last presidential election. He can just stay and help restructure the party.

2. Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal

The other northern politician on this list is Tambuwal of Sokoto State. He is a loyal member of the party who is also interested in becoming a leader in the party. In the previous general election, Aminu Tambuwal contested against Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and he lost. Instead of contesting as the flag bearer of the party this time around, Tambuwal can just restrict himself to the chairmanship position of the party alone.
