Yahaya Confirmed as Chief of Army Staff By Senate

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Senate joint Committee on Defence and Army at plenary on Tuesday.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto) said the committee found the nominee suitable to occupy the position.

Wamakko said the choice was arrived at given Yahaya's wide presentation of top to bottom information and experience on essential strategies of military activities. 

He said the advisory group screened the candidate on issues identifying with financing of military activities, general conflict on fear, revolt and banditry, vital military tasks, for example, equipment and knowledge sharing. 

As per him, the advisory group was happy with powerful nature of the commitment and communications from the chosen one. 

He said the board of trustees likewise discovered that his assignment was in accordance with the constitution. 

Wamakko said the advisory group didn't get any request against the chosen one. 

He said the candidate had been cleared by the Department of State Security Service (DSS) and introduced his set of principles affirmation slip. 

The chosen one, Wamakko said, had the necessary scholastic capabilities to involve the situation of Chief of Army Staff. 

He, in this manner, asked the Senate to affirm his arrangement. 

Contributing, Sen. Ali Ndume,(APC - Borno) an individual from the Committee and Chairman, Committee on Army, asked the Senate to affirm the candidate to empower him to execute a few obligations which he was unable to release in acting limit. 

Sen. Gabriel Suswam (PDP-Benue) said the chosen one, whenever affirmed would have the option to handle issues of psychological oppression and rebellion, given his last posting. 

He said that the candidate was learned on the most proficient method to handle issues of rebellion. 

The President of Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, said the presence of all the panel individuals at the screening of the candidate showed how dedicated, genuine and devoted the senate is on the security of the country. 

He, nonetheless, brought up that the military alone couldn't resolve the security challenges, saying that it required the exertion and backing, everything being equal. 

Yahaya was named on May 27 by President Muhammadu Buhari after the demise of previous COAS, Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane accident in Kaduna State.
