Why Oyinlola & Wale Oladipo's fight for Deputy Chairman may divide South-West PDP

Ahead of the National Convention of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, the jostle for key positions of the party has been heightened.

In the South-West region, there have been several controversies as influential political players try to grab the position of Deputy National Chairman (South) zoned to the region ahead of the National Convention of the party.

Influential political players in the South-West like the former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and the former National Secretary of PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo have indicated interest to occupy the position of the Deputy National Chairman zoned to the region.

The two political players on the platform of PDP in South-West rejected the option of consensus candidate adopted in other zones. 

According to a report by PUNCH, the two PDP stalwarts have rejected several moves to resolve the issue and go for consensus candidate but none of them agrees to shelve his ambition. 

The report explained that Sunday Bisi-led Osun chapter of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party has thrown its weight behind Oladipo and nominated him for the position.

The report also revealed that some party leaders in the South-West were drumming up support for the former Oyo State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola

The party members are already divided into two factions, one supports Oyinlola, while the other faction is supporting Oladipo to grab the position of Deputy National Chairman (South), zoned to the region.

The ongoing fight between the two PDP stalwarts may likely divide the South-West PDP if not addressed by the leadership of the party. 

One of the political players will emerge as the Deputy National Chairman of the party, if the ongoing issue is not addressed, it may likely divide the South-West PDP because of the aggrieved members that will emerge from the fight for the position.
