The Race for 2023 Governorship is gathering momentum in Plateau State as Multitudes of Gubernatorial Contenders are already making Consultation and Consolidation Efforts to achieve their Political Ambitions. The Race to Succeed the Incumbent Governor Simon Lalong is more pronounced the Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the existing zoning arrangement, Lalong's Successor is expected to emerge from the Plateau Central Senatorial District, the same Zone that produced Former Governor Joshua Dariye. The Five Local Government Areas that make up the Zone are Kanam, Kanke, Pankshin, Mangu and Bokkos. All things being equal, Below are the Names of Top Five Likely Successors of Governor Governor Simon Lalong.
1. Chief Garba Pwul (SAN)
A leading Nigerian Attorney who hails from Mangu Local Government Council, Pwul is the First Plateau State Indigenous Lawyer to be honoured with the Legal Practice Privilege of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He is well-known across the State and in Legal Circles across the Country. Pwul has been a Counsel to Former Governor Joshua Dariye and was also the Lead Counsel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 Gubernatorial Election Tribunal.
2. Dr. Patrick Dakum
An Erudite Scholar and Medical Doctor of over 37years in practice, Dakum is a Former Commissioner for Information in the Dariye-led Administration and now the Director, Centre for Human Virology. The Pankshin-born Governorship Hopeful was formerly an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland, United States.
3. Dr. Latep Dabang
Dabang, 68 is a Former Chairman of Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), serving from June 2001 to December 2006 and has been the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State from inception till date. The Pankshin-born Politician had previously served as Legislative Aide to Senator Joshua Dariye between January 2008 and October 2011.
4. Nde David Victor Dimka
The 60years-old Dimka is a Unijos-trained Political Scientist, Administrator and an Ex-Custom Boss. He joined the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in 1987 where he rose steadily to become the Deputy Comptroller of Operations in August 2010. In later years, he was appointed as the Comptroller General of Customs, a position he held until his retirement in 2017 after 30years in the Civil Service. Dimka is an indigene of Kanke Local Government Area.
5. Professor Soni Gwanle Tyoden
The 70years-old Academician, Administrator and Politician is the incumbent Deputy Governor of Plateau State. He assumed office in May 2015. Prior to his Political Career, Tyoden, a Professor of Political Science served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos between June 2006 and June 2011.
