The Nigerian Senate Seek For Abolition Of Age Limit In Government Employments

The senate of Nigeria on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to instruct the Ministry of Labor to set up a committee to look into the abolition of age limits on employment in the country.

The Senate reached the decision following a motion presented by Senator Ibrahim Gobir, the bbc hausa reported.

"Many Nigerians are reducing their age in their efforts to join the recruitment drive," the Senator said.

He added: "Whenever a person knows that he will not be hired for age limit, then he will resort to some unethical practices of reducing his age , which lead to an increase in crime and insecurity in the country."

Speaking during the call, Senate President Ahmad Lawan condemned the discrimination against some job seekers because of their age.

"They have not committed any crime that would discriminate against them. If it is said that only 30-year-olds are wanted for a certain employment ; you can find someone who graduated from university 10 years ago," he said.
