Ondo2020:Barely Few Hours To APC Primary Election, See Why An Aspirant Steps Down For Gov. Akeredolu

Just few hours to the All Progressive Congress governorship primary election in Ondo State, one of the aspirant, Ife Oyedele, has finally stepped down from the gubernatorial race for the present governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Mr Oyedele, is the Executive Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria, reveals his decision to journalists at the Government House, Akure, on Sunday night.

According to him, stepping down for the incumbent governor became necessary due consultation with the leaders of the party who urged him to work in close hand with Governor Akeredolu for the upcoming election”.

Now there are only 10 aspirants ready to go into the race with the governor today.

They include: Segun Abraham, Olusola Oke, Olaide Adelami, Jumoke Anifowose, Bukola Adetula, Sola Iji, Isaac Kekemeke, Nathaniel Adojutelegan, Jimi Odimayo and Awodeyi Akinsehinwa.

Sometimes ago, there have been several issues following the strategy of the primary election, Except Governor Akeredolu, all other aspirants rejected the indirect primary election method being adopted by the party.

Many of the aspirants argued that when indirect primaries are used, the probability nthat the results favour the incumbent is high because most delegates will be those that are very loyal to him.

Despite their displeasure of the methos, the commitee chairman of the primary election, Yahaya Bello who is the governor of Kogi state rejected their opinion on the view that “aspirants don't have power to direct the party”.

Mr Oke who is one of the aspirants has said although he would be a contestant of today’s election, he would challenge any form or irregularity and fraud in court.
