It would be remembered that the former president, declared during his 2015 presidential election campaign that his political ambitions, is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. And as such, he willing ceded power to the incumbent president Muhamadu Buhari, after INEC chairman declared him winner without a fight. As the country was in already in tension.
As a result of this, the ex president has since then, gained international recognition for Peace, as well as represented the AU as election monitoring team in Liberia. Including his recent appointment by ECOWAS as the leader of ecowas_cedeao in Bamako, Mali.
Fortunately and unfortunately for the ex president Jonathan, Nigeria twitter users had a lot to say, when he shared the news of his arrival at the capital city of Mali, on Wednesday. Owing to the present looming security challenge in Nigeria.
Here is his post
I arrived Bamako Wednesday evening with my delegation to begin my assignment as leader of @ecowas_cedeao
peace mission to Mali. I'm optimistic that our mission will yield positive results. Our message of peace and progress has so far been well received by stakeholders.
On reading it, Nigerians did not hesitate to respond, as some felicitated with him, while others have some bitter pills for the ex president to swallow. And chiefly amongst this pills was the recent arrest of a twitter user who mad bad jokes about his wife, Patience Jonathan. Calling for his release from the Nigerian Police custody.
In the same vein, others trolled him for not helping to fight for peace in the country. Making mention of the mind-worrying terror of Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
See what Nigerians had to say
From the protagonist perspective
The antagonist had these to say
Nevertheless, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is good leader, who knows when and how to draw the line. Hope he will decide to contest again come 2023.
