Why Some Political Interest Groups Are Against Governor Ortom For Supporting 2023 Southern President

Some core Northern politicians in PDP want the party to field a Northern presidential candidate despite that the PDP has zoned its national chairmanship to the North.

They believe that Musa Yaradua the only Northerner who has become the President of Nigeria under PDP spent only 3 years in Aso Rock before he died.

That is why they think that the PDP should zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the North for the sake of justice. However, Governor Samuel Ortom appears to be supporting that the PDP should field a Southerner as its 2023 presidential candidate.

Some political interests are against this according to a report on Vanguard newspaper which states that the Middle Belt Forum has raised alarm over the Governor's safety because he supports power shift to the South in 2023.

Although Governor Ortom has not come out to openly support that the South should produce the President in 2023, his actions suggest so.

While the core Northern PDP Governors are working to ensure that the party zones its presidential ticket to the North, Governor Ortom took the position of the zoning committee that the North should produce the National Chairman of the PDP.

Remember that the National Chairman of the PDP and the 2023 presidential candidate cannot come from the same zone.

While the Governor has the right to support power shift to the South, some people interest groups believe that he is working against the move by core Northern politicians to ensure they frustrate any plan of PDP to field a Southern presidential candidate.

Governor Ortom has one thing in common with some Southern Governors which is that he banned open grazing in Benue State. That has not gone down well with some herders in Benue.

The Middle Belt where Benue belongs is a minority group in the North and the frequent clashes between farmers and herdsmen unsettle the Governor.
