Could Gov. Hope Uzodinma's Administration Eventually Become The Best In The History of Imo State?

Just like every other state in Nigeria, Imo has had its fair share of good and bad leadership since the state was created in 1976. It should be recalled that during the administration of the late Dr Samuel Onulaka Mbakwe, the state recorded massive development in different sectors of its economy. Till today, many people in Imo still cherish the memories of Samuel Mbakwe’s administration, and have argued that it remains the best in the state’s history.

Recently, the emergence of Emeka Ihedioha, brought renewed hope that one day, Imo would be blessed with another visionary leader like the late Samuel Mbakwe. This is undoubtedly due to the level of improvements that were seen in the state within Ihedioha’s few months in office. However, the hope was cut short following the infamous Supreme Court’s judgement that removed him from office, and brought in Governor Hope Uzodinma.

Since Hope Uzodinma came into office, his administration has arguably struggled to win the hearts of the people. This is due to the perceived injustice in the removal of Emeka Ihedioha, and the belief of some people, that he was imposed on them. However, this did not deter the new Governor from carrying on, and working towards achieving his set goals. Recently, we saw the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, visit the state to commission some projects executed by Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration.

It is arguable that the projects will ameliorate the sufferings of Imo people. As such, should be regarded as a criterion for measuring the administration of every Governor in the state’s history. With this, we may begin to ask ourselves whether the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma could go on to eventually become the best in the history of Imo State. It should be recalled that the Governor is still in his first term, and may likely serve a second term.

Arguably, Governor Hope Uzodinma still has some years left before he leaves office as the Executive Governor of Imo State, and could use the remainder of his days in office, to execute projects that would ameliorate the sufferings of Ndị Imo. This would undoubtedly make his administration seem to be among the best in the state’s history. However, whether it could eventually become the overall best is something we may have to wait to find out.
