C'River 2023: Why Bishop Emma Isong Does Not Support PFN's Endorsement Of Sandy Onor As Governor

Ahead of the governorship election in Cross River State, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in the State endorsed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Professor Sandy Onor.

According to a report by the Voice of Nigeria, the statement was jointly signed by its State Chairman, Dr. Lawrence Ekwok, the General Secretary, Apostle Frank Umo, and the State Director, Politics and Good Governance, Professor Kyrian Ojong.

It is understandable why Bishop Emma Isong of the Christian Central Chapel, Calabar, Cross River State is speaking out against the endorsement of Senator Sandy Onor, the PDP governorship candidate in the forthcoming elections on Saturday, March 11.

Emma Isong is an appointee in the government of Prof. Ben Ayade, as Chairman of the Cross River Anti-Tax Agency.

For Saturday's election, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) only a few days ago endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwolu of the APC in Lagos State, so why can't the PFN in Cross River State endorse a candidate of its choice?

It is a known fact that many religious leaders take sides with candidates of their choice in every election cycle and thereafter dedicate their 'followers' to turn their adherents to support these candidates, so Emma Isong should not see the endorsement of Sandy Onor as a new thing.

We understand that Emma Isong is an Integral part of the Ayade-led-administration under the APC and will want to support the candidate of the APC, but he should also know that the PFN in Cross River has its leadership at the state level that takes decisions independently.

If there is any counter opinion, it should come unanimously from the office of the National President of the PFN and not a single entity, just as Emma Isong has done.

Away from that, do you think religious institutions should meddle in politics? Do you think there should be an endorsement from religious bodies on election matters? Drop your contributions in the comment section, and share.
