Today Saturday, April 3, Nigeria has been thrown into mourning her illustrious and prominent sons. It is a great loss for the country at the moment that the cold hands of death has taken away Haruna Maitala and Yinka Odumakin. It is pertinent for us to know that death is a necessary end for every human being living here on earth, and for the reason, we should be prepared at all times, knowing that one day you will get to the great beyond.
However, the death of these two powerful men came as a rude shock to many Nigerians who has respect and admired their stance always in matters of national importance. Until his death, Haruna Maitala was a member of the House of Representatives under the ruling All Progressive Party (APC), representing the good people of Jos North/Bassa Constituency.
It was saddening to learn that the vibrant lawmaker died in a car accident alongside his son, Jafaru, a legislative aide and his driver along the busy Abuja-Keffi road to Jos. According to official report, Maitala is the fifth member of the lower legislative chamber to have died in the ninth assembly.
On the other hand, Yinka Odumakin until his death, was the spokesman for the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere. He reportedly died in the COVID-19 isolation centre in Lagos State. According to his wife, Mrs Joe Okei-Odumakin who confirmed his death, Odumakin was a strong man who never looked down on anyone.
She was quoted saying “A part of me is gone. A part of me is gone. He fought hard at the intensive care unit. Pray for me to survive this. My love is gone.”
May their souls rest in peace
