Cameroon Congratulates Nigeria on Kanu’s Arrest

The Government of Cameroon has congratulated Nigeria on the arrest of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

According to him, the President met a Special Envoy from President Paul Biya of Cameroon at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

The envoy while congratulating Nigeria for Kanu's arrest, said President Biya looked forward to a situation in which Nigerian territory would not be available for the Ambazonian movement to destabilize Cameroon.

He alleged that some people are taking advantage of the crises in the English speaking parts of Cameroon to break the country apart.

Kanu's IPOB had announced that it was collaborating with Ambazonian separatists groups, including the Ambazonian War of Liberation (AWL) and Ambazonia Defence Forces (ADF) operating in Southern Cameroon.

Following Kanu's arrest, and sustained military onslaught, IPOB members and operatives of the proscribed group's armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have been reportedly fleeing into Cameroonian territory occupied by Ambazonia separatists.

The crackdown on IPOB in Nigeria, thus have implications on Cameroon's stability, hence Biya's interest in Kanu's case.
