There is an acrimony currently tearing the ranks of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters' Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) apart as the National Body seems to be at war with the Lagos State Chapter over what is termed illegality by the people put in charge of controlling the chapter which has led to suspending their activities indefinitely by FIBAN National.
According to the findings by this writer, there had been a cold war between the FIBAN National and the Lagos State Chapter since January, 2020, when election was held to elect National Officers of the very strong association. It was learnt that the sitting President, Com. Desmond Abiodun Nwachukwu, who recontested in the January 2020 election was not wanted to return by some powers that be in the Lagos State Chapter of FIBAN.
Com. Desmond Nwachukwu
Therefore, a candidate in the person of popular broadcaster, Alhaji Bashir Adisa, better known as Baba Gboin was raised to contest against him, but unfortunately, Baba Gboin lost to the incumbent President in the election. And not satisfied with the outcome of the election, the Lagos State Chapter led by Otunba Tokunbo Babs Olurinde as the Chairman, purportedly decided to stay aloof, and not have anything to do with the National Body of the association for the time being, a move which was said to be alien to their constitution.
Alhaji Bashiru Adisa
But in their wisdom, the National Body was said to have folded its arms and watched how the Lagos State Chapter was going to operate in their "secession-like stance". Hence, when the tenure of the Executive Officers of the Association across the states in the country expired later in the year 2020, the National Body reportedly sent in officers to other states of the Federation to conduct elections to bring in new officers, but refrained from conducting the election in Lagos State. And the implication of that was that, the officers in the state kept operating while their tenure had expired constitutionally.

But what was said to have finally angered the National Body was a recent move by a member of the Board of Trustees in Lagos State, Chief Abbey Fagboro, to set up a Caretaker Committee for the Association without any recourse to the National Body. Therefore, the National Body decided to terminate the appointment of Chief Fagboro and suspend the activities of FIBAN in Lagos State indefinitely.
See below, a copy of the letter written to that effect which was made available to this writer...

TERMINATION OF APPOINTMENT AND SUSPENSION OF ALL FIBAN ACTIVITIES IN LAGOS STATE
You may recall that on 28thMarch, 2017 the National President of our association, Comrade Desmond Nwachukwu in exercising his powers as entrenched in Article 12, Subsection 8 of our Constitution, appointed you into the Board of Trustees of our association as a Member representing Lagos State Chapter.
The choice of your person was hinged on the belief that you have the capacity to provide adequate leadership guidance as stipulated in Article 12 Subsection 4 of our constitution.
However, recent happenings in the Lagos State Chapter has proven that you lack the capacity to function in such position.
Sadly, the National Secretariat noticed that
You co-ordinated the dissolution of a constitutionally inaugurated executive of the Lagos State Chapter without recourse to the National Body.
You supervised the inauguration of a Caretaker Committee even though you well know that such task is the exclusive responsibility of the National Body.
You flagrantly failed to consult nor advise the National Body on events in Lagos State Chapter before you superintended over such illegality.
You betrayed the trust and confidence reposed in you in carrying out your advisory role to appropriately guide and advise the Lagos State Chapter accordingly.
You have also proven beyond every reasonable doubt that you are not abreast with the provisions of our constitution or you deliberately ignored it. Therefore, mischievously misled the Lagos State Chapter.
This development is a confirmation of an earlier information that you have been engaged in some sinister meetings with some people whose motive is to destroy the association or make it ungovernable for the present national leadership.
It also came to our attention that you created an office that never existed and remains unknown to our constitution.
That you have been parading yourself as the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Lagos State Chapter which you well know is at variance with Article 12, subsection 7 of our constitution.
You have clearly been impersonating the office of the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the association-- the least expected of a man of your status.
Upon this gross violation of our constitution and the direct abuse of office, trust and responsibilities assigned to you, the National Working Committee have mandated the National President to exercise his powers as stated in Article 15 subsection 2 of our constitution.
I am therefore directed to notify you and the general public, that your appointment as a member of the Board of Trustees representing Lagos State chapter of FIBAN has been terminated with immediate effect.
In the meantime, following the expiration of the tenure of Otunba Tokunbo Babs-Olurinde led administration; all activities in the name of FIBAN, including any meeting in the name of the association are hereby suspended indefinitely. This is in accordance with the power vested in the National President in Section D ii, iii, and x of our constitution.
While we acknowledge your fundamental right to associate under any banner of your choice, as long as you operate in the name FIBAN, you are under obligation to respect the constitution and comply with the directives of the national body who are constitutionally empowered to supervise the affair of the association.
Therefore it is in your own interest to comply with this directive.
Comrade Taiwo Adebayo-Gold
National General Secretary.
