The Chairman of the Partners for Electoral Reforms, Mr Ezenwa Nwagwu, has argued that the cashless monetary policy of the CBN and the federal government cannot solve the menace of vote buying, adding that the cash scarcity the policy creates, will instead encourage the problem (Punch).

Ezenwa Nwagwu.
Nwagwu, who spoke recently on the effects of the naira scarcity, declared; If you create this kind of scarcity, even your law enforcement officers will assist the vote buying process. Are the officers from the moon? In good times, they were already collaborating, not to talk of now that cash has become gold."

Cited report.
Nwagwu, who visibly expressed the view that vote buying could only be curbed, through the strict enforcement of the laws guiding our elections rather than through monetary policy, went further to assert that Nigeria is not ready for cashless elections.
