Yesterday, a faction under the aegis of the People's Democratic Party Youth issued a twenty-four-hour ultimatum to the PDP's Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NWC), and other prominent party stakeholders to make all practicable moves to keep Chief Femi Fani-Kayode in the party.
The group claimed that failure to do so would cost havoc and disaffection to the party not only in the northern region but also across the country's entire six geopolitical zones.
The Chief of the Northern People's Democratic Party Youth Zonal Youth, Hon. Ibrahim Ahmadu, who delivered the ultimatum in a statement released on Sunday and made it available to Vanguard, noted that Chief Femi Femi-Kayode should be convinced to stay in the party by all means after a series of deliberations and broad consultations with other regions.
"Ibrahim Ahmadu said, "It is very unfortunate and unfortunate that the leadership of the PDP will allow such a popular figure to leave the party.
Following a series of deliberations and large consultations, the PDP Northern Youth Group has agreed to give the BOT, NWC a 24-hour ultimatum to meet and convince Chief Femi Fani-Kayode to return to the party. A failure to do so would lead to the party's untoward and unimaginable consequences.
Anyway, according to Hon. "The group assembled that there are attempts by the ruling party to woo Fani-Kayode to APC, He maintained that "while he has the right to enter any party, allowing such a vibrant and dogged political figure, who has wide connections and supporters across Nigeria, including the international community, to leave the party, would be a catastrophe for the PDP.
He noted that, as the main opposition, the PDP should ensure that all steps should be taken to retain aggrieved members of the party if the 2023 elections are to be won.
We may honestly claim that with the attempt to snatch Chief Fani-Kayode into their fold, the ruling APC was very intelligent. While Fani-Kayode has the right to join any faction, the PDP must ensure that it does everything possible to ensure that he returns to the party, since the loss of such a huge figure can only spell the party's doom.
Hon. Uh, hon. However, Ahmadu commended Femi Fani-Kayode for all efforts to promote the party, Moreover, acting as the power of the opposition throughout Nigeria against the ruling party, APC.
He called on party leaders and stakeholders to meet the next 24 hours with Chief Femi Fani-Kayode before APC consolidates on it moves to porch him.
We applaud Chief Fani-Kayode for his efforts over the years to support the PDP and to fight for the rights of oppressors and downtrodden people for whom the new Buhari government has no regard. In the nation, Fani-Kayode is a powerful opposition voice, and leaving the PDP to APC is a special advantage for the ruling party.
Recall Vanguard reported how APC youth had welcomed leader Femi Fani-Kayode to the party shortly after Mr. Yahaya Belloo, Kogi state governor, had declared at a press conference that Femi Fani-Kayode had joined the party. But in a fast response, Fani-Kayode had stated in a series of tweets that discussions were underway as a statement and that he had not left the party.
