When Governor Bello Matawalle dumped the PDP for APC, some Nigerians thought it will be easy for him to strike a deal with top APC politicians in Zamfara State like former Governor Abdulaziz Yari and Senator Kabiru Marafa.

I am not surprised because such a deal is common in Nigerian politics.
Those who are following development in Zamfara will agree with me that Governor Bello Matawalle dumped the PDP for APC because he wasn't sure if he will win the 2023 governorship election in Zamfara under PDP.

He has formally joined the APC since June and sharing the leadership structure is now an issue. Yari wants APC leadership in Zamfara to be shared 50/50 according to Daily Post report.
This simply means that he and his camp will get 50 percent leadership structure of the party in the state while the governor takes the remaining 50 percent. Yari also wants his camp to produce the chairman of the party in the state.

But the Governor thinks that such a deal is not fair to him. He wants a 70/30 deal. He wants to take 70 percent leadership structure in the state while Yari and his camp take the remaining 30.
My understanding of what is playing out in Zamfara is that it is about who controls the state ahead of the 2023 general elections and beyond.
Bello Matawalle has an ambition which is to come back in 2023 as Zamfara State governor under APC.
Yari has done his 8 years as governor and wants to be the godfather of Zamfara politics just like some of his colleagues do in other states. From the body language of Yari, it is either 50/50 APC leadership or no deal.
The fact remains that Bello Matawalle cannot win the 2023 governorship ticket of APC in Zamfara without the support of Yari and Marafa.
Can he shift ground and agree to the 50/50 deal with Yari? Only time shall tell.

The battle as to who will be in control of Zamfara APC is becoming interesting and we watch to see between Yari and Matawalle who will be the first to shift ground.
