In the Nigerian music industry of today, one of the first few names that will come to mind especially in the secular music is that of Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly and professionally known as Naira Marley, the president of the famed and controversial "Marlians" club. Born on May 10, 1991, the younger Naira Marley moved to Peckham, South London England, where he schooled and graduated with a distinction in business from Peckham Academy.
The controversial singer who also studied business law at Crossways College (now Christ the King Sixth Form College) shot into limelight few years ago when he released the Olamide and Lil Kesh assisted "Issa Goal" track which earned rave reviews having being the theme song for the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. His other track which aided his remarkable rise in the Nigerian music industry was his "Japa" single release.
However, his travails in the hands of the Nigerian state would start when he released the Zlatan -assisted track "Am I A Yahoo Boy" on 3 May 2019, and got arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that same day. Many who had not really known about him or paid proper attention to him prior to his arrest got to know about him due to how the media carried the story back then.
But during his trials by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission having been charged with an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud, one enduring presence and warming picture is that of Mrs Fashola, the mother of the controversial Marlians president who stood by him all through that grilling moment of his life. She had reportedly wept on a court day when her son was handed over to the Nigerian Prison Service for detention by EFCC until May 30, 2019.
Having perfected his bail conditions and regained his freedom, he would later appear at the courtroom at a later date (October 23). On the day, the controversial president of the Marlian fan base was pictured with his mother, striking a pose with her in the courtroom. See the photos below:
