It is no more news that the Peoples Democratic Party PDP is facing Leadership challenges across the States. Though, the Party Leaders had fixed September 30th to 31st for the National Convention of the Party. If the National Convention is successful, the crisis rocking the Party will become things of the Past. However, the Party needs credible Presidential Candidate to win the forthcoming Presidential Polls.
At this stage, The Party needs to seek for the attention of the Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to resolve the crisis rocking the Party and to give them advice on the kind of Leader who has what it takes to contest 2023 Presidential race under the Platform of the Party. President Olusegun Obasanjo might nominate Some Presidential Aspirants ahead 2023 Presidential Polls for PDP.
Among the PDP Presidential Aspirants that Obasanjo might nominate as Presidential Candidate of the Party, if the Party Leaders Could zone the Presidency to the North is the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo may nominate Tambuwal to become the Presidential Candidate of the Party due to the relationship between them.
It should be recalled that Chief Obasanjo was invited to Sokoto State in April to Commission the Construction of 3.4biliion fly over Bridge in Sokoto Metropolis. Chief Obasanjo described Tambuwal as a dynamic, talented and visionary Leader that has the mind of ensuring Transformation. He stated further that he was surprised by the giant stride recorded by Governor Aminu Tambuwal Administration in the areas of infrastructural developments. All the accolades Chief Obasanjo gave to Aminu Tambuwal during the Commissioning of Projects in Sokoto State shows the good relationship between them. Therefore, If Obasanjo is given the Privilege to Nominate Presidential Candidate for the Party in the North, he might nominate Tambuwal as Presidential Candidate of the Party.
Another Presidential Aspirant that Chief Obasanjo might Nominate for PDP is the Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido. It should be recalled that Lamido contested Presidential race in 2019 and it was rumoured that Chief Obasanjo was the One sponsoring him to become President. Though, Lamido dismissed the rumour, saying he had been in PDP before Obasanjo but he recognised him as his Leader and as Elder Statesman.
This is an indication that Chief Obasanjo and Sule Lamido are have cordial relationship together and if there is need for Obasanjo to nominate Presidential Candidate for PDP, he might nominate Sule Lamido in 2023. It should be recalled that Lamido contested 2019 PDP Primary Presidential race but it was Atiku Abubakar that won the Primary Election to become the Presidential Candidate of the Party. Lamido may still contest Presidential race in 2023. Though, Both Tambuwal and Lamido have not declared their intention to contest Presidential race in 2023 but Chief Obasanjo might support them, if they contest the Race.
