Oshiomhole: The Lion King Is Back To The Forest To Claim Leadership

Watching Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole addressing a momoth crowd at his home town Iyamho upon arrival from Abuja after a tortuous political reign at the national level of the APC, I am compelled to recall the triumphant return of Simba "The Lion King" returning to the prides land. For the benefit of very few who may not know or have forgotten, let me briefly highlight this classic film. It is a 1994 American animated musical drama film produced by Walt Disney. The Lion King tells the story of Simba (Swahili for lion), a young lion who is to succeed his father, Mufasa, as King of the Pride Lands, however, after Simba's paternal uncle Scar murders Mufasa, Simba is manipulated into thinking he was responsible and flees into exile. After growing up in the company of the carefree outcasts Timon and Pumbaa, Simba receives valuable perspective from his childhood friend, Nala , and his shaman, Rafiki, before returning to challenge Scar to end his tyranny and take his place in the Circle of Life as the rightful King.

Comrade Oshiomhole, a renowned activist, who rose to the top when he emerged the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and vice president International Labour Organization (ILO). Oshiomhole, a dogged unionist ventured into politics where he contested and became Governor of Edo state for two term of 8 years. Since 2008 when he stamped his footprints of political wellness through massive and aggressive infrastructural development coupled with his oratorial prowess with which he had struck a cord with people of Edo state. A man who has a strong bond with the low and the mighty. His footprints are visible in the one hundred and ninety-two wards in Edo state, The Red roof signature is used to portray his intervention in the education sector where he built and renovated all primary and secondary schools from Edo south, through Edo central to Edo north.

While speaking to his kinsmen, the enigmatic political general has this to say: "I Made My Mistakes By Supporting A Man Who Has No Vision For My People And Judged A Pastor Who Genuinely Loves His People, I Am Sorry... I Apologise To Edo People And Promise To Correct My Mistakes By Making Sure The Servant Of God Pastor Ize-Iyamu Is Elected As Governor And Kick The Snake Out Of The Government House , From Now Till September 19th I Am Here In Edo State Because A Political Lion That I Am ,I Am Not Scared Of Anything" He went further remind his people a brief political histoty of how their destiny had played out referring back to his re-election bid about Eight (8) years ago: "The Man (Ize-Iyamu) That Is Coming Is Not A Stranger, He Campaigned For Me In 2012 And I Won All 18 Local Government In Edo State, So He Knows The Roots Unlike The Current Governor Who Just Became Governor And Doesn't Know The Efforts People Made To Make Him Governor. We Would Kick Out This MOU Governor And Replace Him With A Pastor And Sweep Out The Coronavirus Party By The Special Grace Of God".

During the 2016 APC the primaries, Oshiomhole triggered the state mechinery to bring about the emergence of Obaseki as the party's flagbearer. Without pretence, he bullied many and to others, he enticed for Obaseki. His tactics turned friends to enemies and enemies to friends. From a total of 2,566 delegates that participated at the indirect primaries, Godwin Obaseki scored a total of 1,168, his closest rival Pius Odubu, the incumbent deputy at the time, scored 471, Kenneth Imasuagbon, the popular "rice man" came distance third of 247, Chris Ogiemwonyi, a former NNPC chief, scored 137, Charles Arhiavbere, a retired Military General scored 11, Osarhiemhen Osunbor, a former Governor, scored 8, Ebegue Amadasun, Austin Emuan, Blessing Agbonmere and Tina Agbarha scored 8, 7, 5 and 3 respectively. Obaseki later emerged Governor after the then Governor hovered the the political firmament in Edo.

Oshiomhole, the former national chairman of the ruling APC has vowed to team up with other members of the APC to reclaim the state, having successfully driven away the common enemies in his party. He stated that his mission was to bring Edo back to the parts of sustainable development and entrench a government that would consolidate on his achievements, especially in the provision of basic infrastructure. “We want to return to the government of the people by the people and for the people" He continued. We have a common mission, to bring Edo back to the parts of sustainable development. I am back and ready for Edo, my home state. The snake that entered our family home, God has driven the snake out to where he belongs. I have come home to join you and start the process of reclaiming the house back to the family of APC. If the people say yes and God says yes, there is no man born of a woman that can say no"

Ize-Iyamu has since clinched the ticket of the Edo APC where he was declared winner of the direct primary contest with a total of 27,838 votes. The first and second runner up scored 3,776 and 2,751 votes respectively. In Edo, Ize-Iyamu is singing and the people are dancing, the way and manner the masses are trooping to welcome the APC candidate is a pointer to what the outcome of September election will look like.

Like Simba the (Lion King) he has returned to Edo to showcase his democratic credentials to woo voter for his party. If history is anything to go by, just like Simba and his company, Oshiomhole and the APC will sing: "Hakuna matata" meaning no worries come September 19, 2020.
