According to reports, a Federal High Court in Abuja has fined three litigants and their lawyer N17 million for filing a frivolous suit seeking to stop the inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The litigants, Praise Ilemona, Pastor Paul Isaac Audu, and Dr. Anongu Moses, had filed the suit on May 24, alleging that Tinubu supplied false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about his age and citizenship status.
According to source, in a ruling on Friday, Justice James Omotoso dismissed the suit, saying it was frivolous and an abuse of court process. The judge also ordered Abuja Court Fines Three Litigants, Lawyer N17m for Frivolous Suit Against Tinubu's Inauguration.
The court's decision comes just days after the Supreme Court dismissed another suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to void Tinubu's candidacy.
In his ruling, Justice Omotoso said the litigants lacked the locus standi to file the suit, adding that the court could not exercise jurisdiction to hear it because it relates to a presidential election.
The judge also said the litigants had failed to prove their allegations against Tinubu.
The ruling by Justice Omotoso is a major victory for Tinubu and the APC. It paves the way for Tinubu to be inaugurated as president on May 29.
