A group loyal to the Chairmanship aspiration of the All Progressive Congress, APC aspirant in Abeokuta South, Ogbeni Akano Yaya Kayode (AYK), Reformation Movement Worldwide / AYK Support Group, has said that women will have a strong representation in his government, if elected.
The Publicity Secretary of the Group, Lateef Owodunni disclosed this on Friday while discussing the role of women in governance via a virtual meeting.
According to him, AYK had began a tête-à-tête with women across all wards and this is to underline the importance of women as far as his aspiration is concerned.
’’Since women are about 50 per cent of our population, their representatives at all levels must reflect almost this population.
”Some will argue that gender equality is a deal that cannot be achieved overnight, I disagree.
”I say boldly today that you should hold us accountable. We are very certain that AYK will commit to a strong representation of women if elected. Therefore, gender should not be a barrier.
”In terms of quantity and quality, women will play a lead role in his administration,” he said.
Owodunni, while answering questions on the aspirant agenda for women in Abeokuta South, said that AYK has a blue print targeted at empowering women to tackle poverty as well as establish a sustainable financial inclusion system that would address discrimination against women.
"I am not talking politics, AYK is sentimentally and emotionally attached to womanhood,” he stated.
