Gunmen on Thursday killed a traditional ruler and a traditional prime minister in separate attacks in Imo State.
The traditional ruler, Eze Victor Ijioma, was killed in Orsu Obodo in Oguta Local Government Area. He was returning from a meeting in Owerri when he was ambushed and shot several times. His body was then set on fire.
The traditional prime minister, whose name has not been released, was killed in Mgbele, also in Oguta Local Government Area. He was killed in his home.
The attacks have caused widespread fear in the communities, and many people have fled their homes.
The Imo State Police Command has not yet commented on the attacks.
The killings come amid a wave of violence in Imo State. In recent months, there have been a number of attacks on security forces, government officials, and civilians.
The violence is believed to be the work of a number of different groups, including armed separatists, criminal gangs, and political thugs.
The government has responded to the violence with a crackdown on suspected criminals. However, the violence has continued.
The killings of the traditional ruler and the traditional prime minister are a reminder of the growing insecurity in Imo State. The government needs to do more to address the root causes of the violence and to protect the people of the state.
