The endSARs protest will be remembered as one of the movement in history that kept the government on its toes. In less than 2 weeks, the protest gathered support from many Nigerians and the international community as well. We saw how the government quickly yielded to the demand of the Protestant with the disbandment of SARS and the establishment of SWAT. However, many of the Protestant inspired by what they achieved through the struggle in a short while decided to extend the demands to other failing areas in the country to achieve similar results. Consequently, many who saw the protest as a threat and an opportunity for secessionist applied force to end the protest ignoring the genuineness it exudes.

In a report by the Punch newspaper today, Wamakko a one time governor of Sokoto and the chairman of the Senate committee of defence praised the northern youths for not participating in the endSARS protest. He argued that the federal government responded swiftly to the demands of the endSARS but the Protestants refuse to sheath their swords giving room for suspicious allegations. See screenshot of report below.

Shehu sani known for his controversial statements fired back at Wamakko saying the northern youths could join the end palliative movement but refused to take part in the endSARS protest. His tweets generated widespread reactions from some northern youths. Some agreed with him while many others played the devil's advocate. See screenshot of tweets and reactions below.

Some opined that part of the reasons why the endSARS protest failed was as a result of lack of support from the northern youths. We saw how some indigenous youths in the FCT region gave a 48 hrs ultimatum to protesters to vacate the roads. Also, many argued that SARS was not really a problem in the north, so they see no reason why the north should support the movement.

Many believe that the endSARs protest was the key to the change that Nigerians so much desired. Meanwhile, the protest would have been unstoppable if the northern youths had joined the endSARS movement considering their numerical advantage. Do you think the northern youths made a mistake by not joining the protest? How sincere is the protest in the first place? Do you believe the support of northern youths would have changed the narrative of endSARS? Kindly share your thoughts below and let's discuss.
