1 Critical Reason Why PDP Members From The South Might Not Endorse Atiku As Their Candidate In 2023

All political parties in the country are competing to win over the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The biggest opposition party, PDP is one of the major threat to APC because of the previous leadership in the country. Most of the candidates aspiring to win the presidential race have not come out openly to declare their interest in the election but different strategies are put in place to defeat the ruling party.

However, a major advocate of politics, Atiku Abubakar has competed in the previous election and gained a lot of votes from citizens. He has successfully convinced his political party to endorse him twice as the flag bearer. It's no doubt that Atiku Abubakar deserved such position because of the love and support shown by the north and south. He won some of the votes from different states beyond expectation. He also clinched to PDP's ticket in October 2018, after defeating top heavyweights Bukola Saraki and Kwankwaso in a closely contested primary race.

The Adamawa State born politician has showed great ambitions over the highest executive office in the country but due his previous attempts, he may face certain stiff resistance from southern PDP delegates. Currently, many southern groups are championing the idea that power should shift to the south in 2023 and this could affect the chances of the north wining the election. The unwritten rule of rotational presidency in the country may affect Atiku's chances in the forthcoming election because the fact that he is from the north dissuade southern PDP delegates from endorsing him as their flag bearer. He might be tactical and brilliant but the build-up and preparations for the coming election might overpower every strategy.

Furthermore, qualifications and competence is highly required by a leader but in terms of regional-based politics, the majority might win the vote. Since most proponents demand the use of power rotation policy, only the majority might participate in the governance process neglecting the minorities.
