The federal lawmaker representing Anambra South in the red chamber of the national assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has argued that if the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria produces the next leader of the upper lawmaking body, it would help in strengthening the unity of the country.

He made this known today in an exclusive interview on Channels Television. The political programme was anchored by Seun Okinbaloye.
Recall that a popular lawmaker and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has shown interested in the apex seat in the red chamber. He hails from Abia State in the South East.
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has endorsed former Governor of Akwa-Ibom and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio as the next Senate President. Godswill Akpabio, who stepped down for the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in last year's All Progressives Congress Presidential Primary election hails from the South-South geopolitical zone of the country.
Reacting on Channels Television, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah said; "For me and our people from the South-East, we are still very strong in contesting for the office of the Senate President of Nigeria for the 10th Senate. That is our position for now,”
He added; "So, in the course of consultation, we would continue to update Nigerians about our position. But for now, I am still in this studio, the position of the South-East caucus [of the Senate] is that we are going to contest for the Senate President of Nigeria."

He stated further; "I think after the presidential election, I think equity demands that we would sit down and look at every region because we are talking about Nigeria. Nigeria is not divided on who brings the vote and who does not bring the vote. Are we not part of Nigeria?”
