Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike place Bonny LGA and Onne Community in Eleme LGA on Total Lockdown

UPDATE: Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has declared a total lockdown on Bonny LGA and Onne Community in Eleme LGA with effect from Sunday, June 21, 2020. 

According to report reaching us on Saturday June 20th 2020, Rivers State Government has imposed a total lockdown of Bonny Local Government Area and Onne Community in Eleme Local Government Areas with effect from Sunday, June 21, 2020 to check the spread of coronavirus in the State. 

According to Governor wike live broadcast, he said all residents of Bonny Local Government area and Onne community, except those on essential services and duly exempted must stay at home.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike stressed further by saying that the lockdown order was in accordance to Pursuant to the fundamental objective of stopping the spread of coronavirus, we have reviewed the situation in Bonny Island and Onne Communities and come to the conclusion that a total lockdown is necessary at this time to shut down the continuing spread of the virus in these communities. 

Any person, group or institution that violates the lockdown and curfew in these Local Government Areas will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Wike said in a broadcast setting out the measures while stating that Security agencies have been directed to enforce the lockdown by arresting and prosecuting anyone who dares to disobey these directives.

The lockdown on Bonny LGA and Onne Community in Eleme LGA was ordered because residents had failed to comply with the state’s directives which has lead to the death of a bank Staff.

After announcing Bonny and Onne Community lockdown, the governor said the greatest threat now is the residents who will ignorantly refuse to comply with Rivers state government directives.

Governor Wike concluded by assuring the good people of Rivers State that his led government would continue to collaborate with well-meaning partners to stop the continuing spread of coronavirus. 

He stated that this is not a time to play politics and called on residents to accept individual responsibility to reduce the risk of transmission and protect our people.
