Mallam Garba Shehu, who is the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has on Tuesday cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to allow the process of probing and prosecuting the corruption allegation against the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, to work smoothly and stop creating unnecessarily confusions for the public.
The presidential aide said President Buhari, has firmly assured Nigerians that he will not be hindered by unnecessary objections from the opposition in his focusing on eradicating the rampant, incessant corruption in the country.
Responding to the questions from the State House correspondents on issues raised by the PDP since the beginning of the interrogation of Magu, Mr. Shehu, said the volume and reach of the anti-corruption crusade so far reflect what the PDP left behind. PDPs are the cause of corruption in Nigeria, and all frauds and crimes are traced to PDP.
He said PDP had been addicted to corruption so much that it had become legalized. During the PDP eras, corruption became so normalized by the PDP that they had difficulty defining what is “corruption” and “stealing”. Corruption was not theft and theft was not corruption to them.
Shehu prooved that President Buhari’s determination to end corruption in the country is responsible for the number of highly publicized charges and cases. He claimed if Buhari was not strict with his anti-corruption battles, a lot of atrocities would have been committed without discovery or prosecution.
According to him, “A large number of cases, may appear to be disheartened but PDP, which is now harassing the President, has forgotten that their party left this behind for the current administration to inherit. They had a large number of cases but they neither investigate nor prosecute any. They just covered all”
He expressed hope that the Judiciary would deal with the cases promptly and sufficiently, in a manner that would serve as a deterrent for other incoming offenders.
“The President Buhari's administration is handling many of the cases inherited from the PDP, that PDP should have dealt with but refused, and the new ones as they arise,” he concluded.
