Mr. Iyorchia Ayu shouldn't be carried away by the euphoria of the new office he would soon occupy. He should rather focus on a particular lesson which he should learn from former APC Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. Mr. Ayu may find some difficulties sooner than expected as he looks forward to occupying the PDP secretariat.
The northern caucus of the PDP had endorsed Mr Iyorchia Ayu and it is almost certain that he would be the replacement of the erstwhile chairman, Mr. Uche Secondus. The national convention of the party would soon hold and his candidacy may be confirmed as the consensus Chairman of the party.
Recall that Mr Adams Oshiomhole was also the sole candidate presented during the APC congress that time. The road was cleared for him and he emerged unopposed as the APC chairman. He was sworn in as the chairman immediately. But his stay in the power didn't last at all.
Problems started almost immediately. Adams Oshiomhole led the party to victory in 2019. The APC under him won the presidential election and a majority at the National Assembly. But Adams Oshiomhole couldn't control his own home, politically. And that cost him his dear job. Mr. Oshiomhole actually enjoyed great privilege at the national level.
Mr. Iyorchia Ayu shouldn't let his national job that he would soon take up to stop him from having some control at the state level. He shouldn't even have any clash with the state governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom. It would be a lesson that he should learn from Mr. Adams Oshiomhole.
Nobody could have predicted that there would be a political battle between Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and Godwin Obaseki. Oshiomhole, who was the APC chairman till June, 2020 insisted that Obaseki wouldn't have the ticket of the party for the last gubernatorial poll in the state.
Mr. Oshiomole was suspended from the APC before Obaseki left. Actually, the state governor didn't get the ticket, but Oshiomhole lost his job on the long run. The two sides lost some things. But it was more painful for Mr. Adams Oshiomhole.
Then, the Benue born politician, Iyorchia Ayu, should take note of this. Even, the last Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus suffered the same issue. He is from Rivers State and he should enjoy maximum cooperation of Mr. Nyesom Wike. Nigerians still remember how Uche Secondus matter started.
In a nutshell, Mr. Iyorchia Ayu should avoid any clash of interest with the Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom. If Ayu has problems at the Benue State chapter of the PDP, he may not spend enough time at the Wadata Plaza Secretariat of the PDP.
