Free and Fair Election is an election conducted according to the principles and rules of democracy. This simply means that, the people of a given country must be free, without coercion, to elect their leaders under a condition that is most favourable and conducive.
Three days to the Governorship election in Anambra state, the expectation of the people of this country, most especially the stakeholders and people of Anambra state is that the much awaited Saturday, 6th November, 2021 governorship election is devoid of any electoral malpractices and intimidation of voters.
Not minding the sit - at- home order given by Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB in the South-East Region if its leader, Nnamdi Kanu is not released from detention by November 4, the government and Independent Electoral Commission, INEC should do the following to ensure the election is crisis free.
Firstly, no intimidation of voters. The electoral body and security agents should not allow voters to be intimidated at the poll. They should see that the voters are free to exercise their franchise.
Secondly, impartiality of electoral officers. The electoral officers and their ad-hoc- officers should not collaborate either with the government or any political party to jeopardize free and fair voting.
Thirdly, non- interference into the work of the government. The commission should be given the utmost independence to carry out its work.
Lastly, the Independent Electoral Commission, security agencies and all stakeholders to discharge their mandates in accordance with law and in a fair and just manner.
