Nigeria Medical Doctors have vowed to continue their strike to paralyze the health care services in Nigeria.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Association of Resident Doctors(NARD) stated this on Wednesday. They expressed their determination to continue the strike pending when their demands are met by the Federal and State Governments.
The doctors blamed the government for not keeping their side of the bargain in promptly responding to the grievances of doctors in Nigeria.
In a Communique sent to TheCable, NARD said Thd NEC unanimously voted that the ongoing total and indefinite strike that started in the first of April, 2021 should be continued until the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria meet with our demands.
It will be recalled that resident doctors in Nigeria embarked on a strike on 1st April to protest against issues such as poor conditions of service and a poor Pay Package for Doctors. It is hoped that the doctors resume work as soon as possible so Nigerians can have access to health services.
The Federal Government has tried in meeting the demands of medical doctors in the country, but of course, there is still room for improvement.
However, it should be noted that the government may not be able to meet all the demands of the striking doctors in one fell swoop as the country barely has enough resources at its disposal to do so. According to reports, we have only just recently exited recession and our economy may not have fully recovered.
