As 2023 draws near, some prominent politicians interested in succeeding Governor Udom Emmanuel, have started consultations and negotiations both within and outside the two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic party and the All Progressives Congress. In this article, I've selected two popular aspirants currently serving in the State Executive Council but preparing to succeed Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2023.
1. Comrade Ini Ememobong
Comrade Ini Ememobong is the current Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Akwa Ibom State. He is a lawyer, Public Relations expert and former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State.
Comrade Ini Ememobong is an indegin of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state, former National President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), former Special Assistant to former Governor Godswill Akpabio and current President, Rotary Club of Nigeria, Uyo branch.
Comrade Ini Ememobong is young, popular, influential and intelligence. His positive contributions to the development of the state and country cannot be ignored. Comrade Ini Ememobong has brought professionalism to bear in the discharge of his official duties as Commissioner for Information, Akwa Ibom State.
2. Mr Akan Okon
Mr Akan Okon is the current Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akwa Ibom State. Akan Okon is also the former Commissioner for Finance and Special Duties, Akwa Ibom State.
Born in 1965 in Itu Local Government Area of the State, Akan Okon is a financial expert who have carved a nitche for himself in the banking sector, with more than two decades of experience. He is an investment banker, administrator, popular politician and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The decision of Governor Udom Emmanuel never to appoint his successor is seen as a boost to these two Commissioners. Their popularity in the PDP and politics of Akwa Ibom State cannot be ignored by political opponents.
