APC: What might happen as Magnus Abe-led faction inaugurates parallel executives in Rivers

The outcome of the state congresses of the All Progressives Congress across the country on Saturday showed all is not well with the ruling party.

The crisis rocking the ruling party came to the fore when parallel congresses were held in some states and produced two factional chairmen.

In Rivers State, the party held parallel congresses that produced two factional chairmen. While Senator Magnus Abe-led faction elected Golden Chioma as its factional APC chairman in the State, the faction loyal to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, elected Mr. Emeka Beke as the APC Chairman.

A report by PUNCH revealed that the intra-party crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of APC took a different turn on Tuesday when Senator Magnus Abe-led faction went ahead to inaugurate parallel executives elected by the group on Saturday.

Senator Abe-led factional group inaugurated the parallel executives at Freedom House in Port Harcourt, a campaign secretariat set up by Senator Abe in 2019.

However, two things might happen as the crisis between Senator Magnus Abe-led faction and Rotimi Amaechi-led faction deepened.

Firstly, the crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of APC might lead to court case. After the inauguration of the parallel executives elected by the faction of Senator Abe-led faction, the possibility of court case might be inevitable.

Recall that while the faction led by Senator Abe is claiming to be the real executives, the faction of Rotimi Ameachi is also claiming to be the real APC executives in Rivers State, this might lead to court case to settle the differences.

Secondly, the crisis might lead to defection. One of the factions will be recognized by the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress, some aggrieved members might leave the party.

This is why the leadership of the ruling party needs to intervene and resolve the issue before the next general elections.
