The former vice President and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic party PDP in the last Presidential Polls, Alhaji Atiku Abubakr didn't just wake up within a night a become what he's today. The name Atiku has been ringing to Peoples hearing for a very long Period of time. Atiku Abubakr is a nationalist.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakr was a custom Boss for several years. He retired in 1989 and he faced Politics Proper. When Atiku returned from custom service to face Politics, He formed a Group called PDM. The Politians that are members of the PDM are Late Sheu Musa Yar'dua, Late chief MKO Abiola, Babagana Kingibe, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some prominent members of the group.
Atiku first contested Governorship Polls in 1989 in the old Gongola state before the state was created Into the new Taraba and Adamawa. Atiku contested the Governorship election back in 1990. He won the election but he disqualified.
Atiku contested for the Presidential Primary election along with chief MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe. Chief MKO Abiola won the Primary election under the Platform of Social Democratic Party, SDP but Atiku Abubakr And Kingibe to work with Chief MKO Abiola. Atiku gave the support to chief MKO Abiola and Abiola won the election. Though election was annulled by the Military Head of State then, General Ibrahim Babangida.
When Democracy returned to Nigeria, And President Olusegun Obasanjo contested, Atiku Abubakr was picked as his running mate. Atiku had earlier contested for the Governorship Polls and won the election before he was picked as running mate to the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.Atiku spent eight years as running mate to chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Meet The Man Who Mentored Atiku To Be What He Is Today.
The only Man that made Atiku what he is today is the Late Gen. Sheu Musa Yar'dua. Yar'dua was an elder brother to the former President, Late Umar Musa Yar'dua. Late Gen. Sheu Musa Yar'dua was the second in command to the former Head of State, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo along with Gen. Yar'dua both were at the helms of affairs.
Atiku Abubakr belong to Same caucus with Gen. Sheu Musa Yar'dua. It Yar'dua who instructed Atiku Abubakr to work with with the Presidential candidate of Social Democratic party SDP, Chief MKO Abiola then. Late Yar'dua is very popular in the North and he used his Popularity to elevate Atiku Abubakr's ambition.
The cordial relationship between Atiku Abubakr and Yar'dua family doesn't start today. That was the reason when The Late President Umar Yar'dua became the President, Atiku being his opponent then couldn't challenge his victory at the Tribunal. And the reason is both of them are from the same school of Politics.
Meanwhile, Late Yar'dua has also made it known to the Public that the election that brought him in as the President was not free and fare. Late Sheu Musa Yar'dua was the one who mentored Atiku Abubakr to be what he is today. The PDM still exists in the North up till today.
