Today's NEC meeting is very important because the NEC will rectify or reject the decision of the zoning committee which zoned the national chairmanship of the PDP to the North.

However former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola is angry that Governor Wike of Rivers State influenced the zoning of the national chairmanship to the North.

According to Vanguard newspaper, Oyinlola is angry and is ready to challenge this decision while Wike who is interested in the presidential election is determined to see that nothing changes. A clash between Oyinlola and Wike looms at the NEC meeting today. This is as former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is confident of grabbing the 2023 presidential ticket of the PDP. These will form the basis of our discussion in this piece.

Before now, the coast was clear for Oyinlola to emerge as the first national chairman of the PDP from the South-West.

But things changed few hours to the announcement of the zoning arrangement as report had it that Wike influenced the decision of many Southern Governors which made them vote that the 2017 zoning arrangement be jettisoned and the national chairmanship be zoned to the North.

Oyinlola is angry and his camp is ready to challenge this. Wike is also ready to ensure that the NEC rectifies the decision of the zoning committee. Oyinlola wants the decision of the zoning committee to be reversed and the national chairmanship micro-zoned to the South-West.

Wike wants the NEC to rectify the zoning of the national chairmanship to the North so that the PDP can field a Southerner as its 2023 presidential candidate.

Last-minute developments in the PDP show that the NEC will throw the presidential contest open to be fair to all regions. Atiku is cool with this going by the statement of a member of the outgoing NWC who is in the camp of the former Vice President.

Atiku is popular in the South and has continued to oil his political machinery ahead of the 2023 presidential election. He also has the financial war chest to fund his presidential ambition be it at the primary election or the campaigns.

When it comes to securing the votes of the delegates in all the 36 states and FCT, he is capable.

He did it in 2018 and that was why he outsmarted Nyesom Wike at the 2018 presidential primary election in Portharcourt to emerge the 2019 PDP flagbearer against Wike's plan to ensure that Tambuwal emerged.
