Tinubu’s Pledge To Nigerians:I'll Not Disappoint You

PRESIDENT-ELECT Bola Tinubu yesterday returned to Lagos in a blaze of glory, describing his Certificate of Return as a World Cup he had brought home.

Bubbling with excitement, he thanked Nigerians for voting for him, assuring that he will not disappoint them.

Tinubu, who stormed the palace of the Eleko of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, thanked the monarch and other community leaders for their support and prayers.

Speaking in Yoruba, he said: “This certificate that I brought home is our own World Cup.”

Oba Akiolu, who hugged the President-elect, wished him an eventful tenure.

Also in Abuja, elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakassai urged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, to support Tinubu.

He said the election has produced a winner and loser, adding that after the exercise, they should cooperate with the president-elect in the task of governance.


Sheikh Gumi Loses Mother

Mother to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, is dead.

Gumi, who announced the death of his mother on his Facebook handle, said her death occurred on Sunday evening at about 5.30 pm.

It was learnt that his mother died today around 5.30 pm and was buried at Unguwar Sarki Muslim cemetery, according to Islamic rites.

Gumi said on his verified Facebook, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.Today at 5.30pm, with a sad heart, I announce the death of my dear mother.

Please seek for her Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.

“Her last words today me two weeks ago: lnsha Allah, Allah will put her and her children and grandchildren together in Jannah.

“These words were very comforting to me. Rahmatul lahi alaiha. Ameen.

Democracy Taking Root In Nigeria Says NGO

The Centre for 21st Century Issues has felicitated the winners of the February 25 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The group noted that following the outcome of the elections, democracy was taking root in Nigeria.

The Executive Director of the non-governmental organisation, Ms Gbemisola Akosa, specifically hailed the victory of the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, describing it as a victory for progressive forces across the country.

Appraising the outcome of the elections, she stated that the presidential poll remained one of the most competitive in the history of the country.

Akosa in a statement issued on behalf of her organisation also called on all aggrieved candidates in the elections to embrace peace by approaching the law court to ventilate their grievances.

“We are glad that the much-anticipated general election with respect to the presidential and National Assembly elections has come and gone with the winners and losers emerging for the available positions.

“We at the 21st Century Issues are particularly delighted that the elections went on well without any serious security breach.


Amosun Crticises Abiodun, Campaigns For ADC Gov Candidate

Former Governor of Ogun State and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has begun canvassing votes for the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Biyi Otegbeye, ahead of the March 11, 2023.

Amosun, who is currently the senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly, had led a campaign rally for the ADC candidate at Ado-Odo/Ota, Sagamu, Ogun waterside, among other local government areas of the state.

A statement by the ADC Campaign Council Media Director, Raheem Ajayi, quoted Amosun as saying Otegbeye was the right person to restore Ogun State to the path of development.

The former governor was also reported to have lamented that Ogun standard policy had been abandoned under the current APC administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
