PDP, APC trade words over insecurity in Plateau

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state for the spate of insecurity in parts of state, even as the APC described PDP as seeking relevance by making the allegation.

The publicity secretary of the PDP, Honourable John Akans said insurgents under the administration had killed more persons and sacked communities than the previous administrations in the state.

“Security and peace have been relegated and abandoned by the present administration; people are left to protect themselves. Three days ago, a student of the University of Jos was killed by a security operative and just a day after, a senior lecturer with the same university was also killed and his daughter abducted but later rescued,” Honourable Akans stated.

He alleged that the APC administration had abandon governance and was playing politics with COVID-19 and that even when a case of the pandemic had not been confirmed in the state, the government locked down Plateau.

He further alleged: “The APC government in Plateau State has performed below average in term of security. Since people are being killed, no single person has been arrested and prosecuted. People are being chased away from their ancestral communities and occupied by insurgents without any visible action from the government.

“In Irigwe in Bassa Local Government Area of the state and many other places, farmers don’t go to their farms again because of violent attack and yet the government wants us to believe they are on top of the situation. The APC administration in this state has failed woefully,”

In his reaction, the secretary of the APC in the state, Alhaji Bashir Sati Musa, who said the government was on top of the situation, stated that the administration had reduced insecurity to the barest minimum, stressing that the APC had done better in than the era of the PDP in power on the issue of security.

“We are on top of the situation; the security situation under the APC is far better than what obtained during the eight years of PDP administration. The PDP should go and put its house in order. The party is now factionalised from the ward to the state level. The situation in the PDP is akin to the saying: things fall apart;the centre can no longer hold. The APC in Plateau State is doing well because it is well-organised.

“In the days of the PDP, people were dying in thousands but in our case, though there are lapses the killings have been reduced. Those areas that were before now considered as no-go areas are now open to all to access. Communities are embracing each other, while those sacked are being resettled,” he said.

He advised the PDP to channel its energy towards productive ventures and stop disparaging the ruling party in the guise of playing opposition politics.
