Onitsha is a commercial centre in the old Eastern Nigeria, and is located in Anambra State, a State in persent-day South Eastern part of Nigeria. Anambra State was created from old Anambra State in August, 1991 by General Ibrahim Babangida led military Government together with States like Kogi, Enugu, Delta,Edo,Osun,Taraba,Jigawa and many more.

The State is administratively divided into twenty-one Local Government Areas of Onitsha North,Onitsha South, Anambra West, Anambra East, Oyi, Ayamelum,Ogbaru,Awka North,Awka South,Idemili North,Idemili South,Dunukofia,Njikoka,Aniocha, Nnewi South,Nnewi North,Orumba North,Orumba South,Ihiala,Ekwusigo and Aguata.

The city of Onitsha has witnessed massive infrastructural developments from successive Governments in the past and also continue to experience development from the incumbent Governor, Dr. Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano.

The volume of commercial activities in Onitsha can only be comparable with the likes of Aba and Lagos, because many states in Nigeria, including some West and Central African countries come to Onitsha for business transactions.
