“The year 2020 will usher in robust peace, economic growth for the benefits of all Nigerians”. Those were the words of bearing the New Year greetings and well wishes for Nigerians from the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi. Lawan also congratulated Nigerians on having scaled the hurdles and struggles of life to witness the end of 2019 and the beginning of the year 2020. He also called on the Nigerians to continue their in their commitment to the unity and prosperity of the country and support for the administration of President Muhammad Buhari. As at the time of putting out this statement, Lawan must have felt like some soothsayer, a prophet or a Jedi of some sort and therefore he thought he had seen into the future and could predict what was to come in the fate of the a nation and her citizens.
Little did he know that in about a few months the whole world would open her arms too welcome the wave of the corona virus pandemic which has shut down the entirety of the world’s economy and also that of the nation forcing the nation to close her borders to the outside world, he didn’t know that soon enough the nation would be held to the mercy of the virus which threatens to crumble the very foundations of this country. He did not foresee that our primary 6 pupils, senior secondary class 3 student and university final year students would be stopped from taking their final years and therefore passing out of school unto the next stage in life. Nor did he foresee that the almajiris would be repatriated from different states back to their states of origin.
Lawan did not foresee that in about a few months later, Buhari would have with the aid of the National Parliament borrowed millions of Dollars thereby holding this country to ransom and having to service Chinese loans every year till most likely 2030.Lawan did not foresee that the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi would be dethroned as Emir of Kano by the governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduje.
Lawan did not also foresee that in a few months time, the All Progressives Congress, the party on which he rode to victory would crumble and the powers that-be would be dismantled and would be begging for crumbs from the president. Lawan did not foresee that Adams Oshiomole would be dumped out of office by forces he created with his own hands.
Lawan did not foresee that in a couple of months, the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu would be arrested in broad daylight by men of the Department of State Security and would be placed in detention, charged with several felony charges and would be suspended and later sacked by the President.
