Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, the executive governor of Ondo State will not stop showing us the stuff he is made of. The senior advocate has continue to show us that he is a lion as far as courage is concerned. He says things the way he sees them without caring about who could be offended or not. Akeredolu has proved his great courage so many times but these are three times he has really stunned everyone:
The first time he caught everyone's attention with his brave and outspoken nature came even when he has not been elected as governor. In the build up to the Ondo state governorship elections primaries of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in 2016, the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu made it clear that his preferred candidate was eng. Olusegun Abraham, therefore not endorsing the candidacy of Mr. Akeredolu. It happened that two days before the primaries, Akeredolu in an interview with Adana FM news declared publicly on air that Tinubu will be shocked after the primary election regardless the great influence of Asiwajuu in the party.
Indeed at the end of the primaries Tinubu was shocked, because, of course Aketi emerged as the winner of the primaries and went on to emerge as the winner in the Ondo gubernatorial election held in 2016 for his first term in office.
Aketi also proved his immense courage about a month ago when he ordered all Fulani herdsmen in the state to quit the government's reserved forests with immediate alacrity because of the crimes suspected to be perpetrated by the so called herdsmen. Akeredolu took this bold step at a time when his counterparts, other Southwest governors were busy sucking their thumbs and watch their people being kidnapped and killed without doing anything.
Lastly, Akeredolu who is also the chairman of Southwest governors forum stunned us with his great courage when he called on the president of the federation, president Muhammad Bihari to indicate his stand in the raging farmers/armed Fulani herdsmen crisis in the country. Against the background of innuendos and accusations that the President is sympathetic to the marauding armed herdsmen, because of his filial relationship as a Fulani, the governor called on the president to declare his stand to avoid equivocation by Nigerians.
All these are indeed expressions of great courage
