Two Reasons Aregbesola May Still Support Governor Oyetola in 2022

The political rift between Osun State Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola and his predecessor who is also the current Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola may not affect the support of Aregbesola for the second term election of Governor Oyetola.

Loyalists of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola and those that are loyal to Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola have been engaging themselves in series of verbal attacks over who is superior between the two leaders of the Osun State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC).

The political rift between the two leaders of the ruling party may not affect the support of Aregbesola for Oyetola's reelection in 2022 because of the two reasons to be highlighted below.

First, the decision of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola to order the Osun State Caretaker Party Chairman, Prince Adegboyega Famoodun to discontinue all legal cases against the loyalists of Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola could be a major factor that may influence Ogbeni Aregbesola to support Governor Oyetola's second term election.

It could be recalled that the political rift between loyalists of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola and Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola took worse dimension when loyalists of Ogbeni Aregbesola decided to appeal the recently conducted Ward Congresses of the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the venue of the Appeal Committee sent from Lagos, there was pandemonium as loyalists of Ogbeni Aregbesola came to the venue in large number which later lead into fracas between the political camp and some loyalists of Governor Oyetola who were at the venue. One person was injured while security agent calmed the situation.

Seven of the leaders of the leaders of Aregbesola's loyalists were later arraigned and docked for disrupting the peace of the state.

Immediately, after the first hearing of the legal battle, Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola ordered the state's caretaker party chairman, Adegboyega Famoodun to discontinue all legal cases against the loyalists of his predecessor.

The decision of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola on the legal battle must have informed Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola that his predecessor is not really in political war with him.

Secondly, the decision of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola to describe the political rift between him and his predecessor, Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola as 'just disagreement on policy and styles' may speak volume in the course reconciling the aggrieved members of his party, APC. He later described Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola as his brother.

The statement of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola implies that the political rift between him and Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola is not as serious as being taken by some loyalists.

The stance of Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola on the management of crisis between his loyalists and loyalists of Ogbeni Abdulrauf Adesoji Aregbesola and simplification of the description of differences between him and Aregbesola may convince Aregbesola to support Governor Oyetola's second term election.
