A Nigerian politician, human rights activist and founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai in an interview said that he his disappointed by the sudden appeal by former President Obasanjo, who called for the cancellation of the election results, adding that he didn't expect it from a man of his calibre.
He made this statement while responding to a question asked by Punch newspaper, which is "What do you make of former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s call for the cancellation of results?"
It could be recalled that while Nigerians were waiting for INEC to announce the winner of the 2023 election, Olusegun Obasanjo called for the cancellation Of the election, urging the INEC Chairman to save Nigeria from the looming danger and disaster waiting to happen.
However, while reacting, Tanko Yakassai said "I listened to his call and read about it in the newspapers. My reaction was that I was very disappointed. I did not expect it from a man of his calibre, a former military ruler transformed into an elected president in Nigeria. But I’m glad that people did not listen to him, and the election has been conducted peacefully"
