Man Narrates How He Retrieved Ballot Snatched By Thugs During Presidential Election in Lagos (Video)

Amid widespread reports of electoral violence that has marred otherwise peaceful elections in Nigeria, a video showing the moment a young man narrated how he succeeded in retrieving a ballot box snatched by suspected political thugs in one of the suburbs in Lagos has surfaced online.

According to the man, the incident, which was said to have taken place in the Jakande axis of Lekki, occurred shortly after voting was almost concluded in his polling unit.

It was gathered that the hoodlums invaded the area and snatched all three ballot boxes after throwing bottles at the crowd of voters who were waiting for the INEC officials to commence counting the ballot papers. However, not ready to back down, the young man and his friend chased down the thugs and retrieved the box containing votes cast for the presidential election.

Narrating what happened, he said; "Where we were voting, a group of guys came and said we should stop. One guy was trying to explain to them that the INEC officials didn't come on time and asked that we be given at least one more hour to conclude everything, but they slapped him. The next thing we knew, they started throwing bottles and before we could react, three of them snatched the ballot boxes on the table and fled.

Immediately they did that, I called a friend of mine and we chased after them. We were able to retrieve the box containing votes for the presidential election and they were eventually counted by the INEC officials in front of a police station to prove that we actually voted in our polling unit. This took place at Jakande today."
