Ronaldo fumes after World Cup qualifying winner denied

Cristiano Ronaldo threw his captain’s armband to the ground in anger after being controversially denied an injury-time winner as Portugal blew a two-goal lead against Serbia in World Cup qualifying on Saturday, while Romelu Lukaku’s 59th international goal salvaged Belgium a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

The Netherlands saw off Latvia 2-0 after their opening Group G defeat by Turkey, who backed up that performance with an impressive 3-0 victory over Norway.

Don’t Ignore Eastern Security Network

The activities of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has unsettled and spread fears in some parts of the South-East.

Operating in forests, ostensibly to tackle suspected criminal herdsmen who destroy farms, maim or kill farmers, rape women and commit other atrocious crimes, the ESN seems to have warmed itself into the hearts of vulnerable rural peasants. But the group’s unnecessary attacks on and killing of policemen, setting fire on police stations, and carting away weapons, point to sinister motives.

Northwest speakers, ex-lawmakers vow to push for Tinubu

Serving Speakers and their predecessors from the Northwest zone of Nigeria have declared their support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the successor to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Their declarations and promises are coming some weeks after a similar endorsement of Tinubu was carried out by their colleagues in the southwestern zone of Nigeria.

Gov Lalong Reveals Cause Of Poverty In Nigeria

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong, has suggested that all tiers of government in Nigeria should cut down on the high cost of governance and channel their funds to critical areas of development.

The Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum stated this during the weekend while delivering the 11th annual memorial lecture in honour of Sir Ahmadu Bello where he related the high cost of governance as the cause of poor standard of living among citizens, particularly in the Northern region of the country.

The NGF chairman explained further that the high cost of governance has increased the inability of governments at all levels to meet the basic needs of the people, noting that cutting down on the cost of governance will address many challenges of Nigerians.
