With respect to the just concluded election, a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, while reacting to the agitations and protests staged by many Nigerians across many states in the country over the declaration made by INEC to declare Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC as the winner of the February 25 polls and the next President-Elect of the federation, said the election was never rigged.
Mr. Ayodele Fayose, while speaking during an interview with the Arise News, revealed that the election was not rigged since the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, could win Lagos State, a state where Bola Tinubu was once their governor, and also the FCT, Abuja, adding that the LP candidate is now an institution in Nigerian politics.
According to him, "Peter Obi is a phenomenon, and Obi is an institution. Today, he has proved that things are no longer the same; if Obi can win in Lagos and defeat Tinubu and Femi Gbajabiamila (Speaker, House of Representatives), including Abuja, and you are still saying the election was rigged, in Lagos, people that used to vote for the PDP voted for Obi. Is that not transparent enough? I believe the 2023 presidential election was not rigged by any standard."
