Nigeria's current democratic dispensation began in 1999, and its presidents have included Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Umaru Yar'Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and him. Buhari stated this in a nationwide broadcast to Nigerians on Friday to commemorate the country's 61st anniversary of independence.
Despite limited resources, his administration has confronted so many challenges since he came into power. Aside from the growing menace of herdsmen, unknown gunmen and Boko Haram terrorist groups, his administration had managed to restore normalcy in some communities. The biggest threat was that of secessionists.
The call for disintegration got intense during President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. While Oodua activists are clamouring for the Yoruba nation in the West, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, clamouring for Biafra agitation in the East.
The present administration from all indications is faced with a bigger challenge than any other administration. President Muhammadu Buhari stance on not granting the wishes of secessionists will surely be appreciated when his tenure is over because united we stand, and divided we fall.
