Suspected political thugs numbering about fifty on Thursday invaded the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Bauchi State during a press conference by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress in the state. It took the quick intervention of the police led by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakili, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, to save the press centre from being vandalized by the thugs who were armed.
The National Assembly Service Commission has queried the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, for alleged “gross insubordination to a constituted authority. Chairman of NASC, Ahmed Amshi, in the query to Sani-Omolori, referred to a statement issued by the Clerk to dismiss the earlier one issued by the commission to announce his retirement from service.
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, mourned a former Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps, Major General Edet Akpan, who died recently. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Thursday, inaugurated a Presidential Joint Board Audit Investigation Panel to probe alleged N3.4 billion financial infractions levelled against the suspended Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Adebayo Somefun and three other directors. The committee is chaired by Ibrahim Khaleel of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the NSITF board.
