Sunday Egene Ode the President of Igede Media Professionals, IMP, has begged Governor Samuel Ortom and the Benue State government for forgiveness over a criminal and defamatory publication against the Governor and government.
Governor Ortom had instituted a case of criminal defamation, injurious falsehood and public incitement against Mr. Ode before the Chief Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Ode apologized and regretted the harm his publication had caused the Governor and the State adding that he will repeat it.
Bellow is the full text of the report:
"On behalf myself and the Igede Media Professionals, I tender an unreserved apology to Your Excellency for any infractions or embarrassment our statement dated 11th and 17th April 2021 may have caused you.
"The Igede Media Professionals is a non-partisan group dedicated to defending the interest of our dear people and Benue State at large.
"This group sees our dear State Benue, as a collective heritage, and is always willing to contribute its quota to her growth and development.
"Your Excellency may recall several statements that the Igede Media Professionals issued in the past, tailored towards defending your good office, your person, and the integrity of the State.
"Among such statements were those condemning your attack on the farm, and on your 60th birthday when you chose to spend time with orphans in orphanages instead of public celebration.
"It may interest Your Excellency to know that it is never in the character of this group to disparage any individual let alone the Number-One citizen of our dear State.
"I am therefore tendering this apology, hoping that Your Excellency may find it expedient to forgive and forget the past, as we look forward to joining hands with your government in the Benue project.
"Once again, on behalf of the Igede Media Professionals led by my humble self, accept my warm regards."
