Consider issues raised against February 25 polls – Lawan charges INEC

In order to ensure a smooth run of the upcoming governorship and state houses of assembly elections, Senate President Dr. Ahmad Lawan on Thursday requested the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to take into account all concerns raised by the public during the recently concluded presidential and national assembly elections.

After conducting the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25, the electoral umpire set a date for the gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections on March 11, 2023.

The electoral umpire established the date for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections on March 11, 2023, following the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25.

Lawan continued, "I believe INEC ought to ponder looking into complaints made by the people. I stated when I declared that the plenary would be suspended until March 14 to allow senators to take part in the elections and campaigns. INEC is required to strictly abide by the Election Act, the Constitution, and all of their rules and regulations.

He went on, "Nigerians should do everything in their power to help INEC run the gubernatorial and state assembly elections without a hitch."

He thanked the senators for "doing everything required to make this Ninth Senate a success." We have finished this legislative week. After the presidential and National Assembly elections, we met once more to make sure we were informed of all that had occurred both during the election and since.

This is so that we can continue to be a crucial component of the solution when it is needed. We have been successful in doing so, and in the process, we have finished other legislative work.

The Senate President said seven presently serving senators are running for governor as he signaled the end of the session.
