Firstly, a victory in Edo's election might just be the last thing that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole could grab for now to save himself from complete and total disgrace and humiliation. Having lost out in a power play in a party that he successfully lead to win the presidential election in 2019. If Governor Godwin Obaseki should win the election for the second time, it would be a double humiliation for him, one that will lead to his quick retirement from politics and that is the last thing that Oshiomhole would want to experience now.
Anytime Comrade Adams Oshiomhole remembers the battle that he single handedly fought in 2016 in other to get Obaseki to succeed him, against all odds, it pains him deeply and this is why he will go all out to fully ensure victory for the APC candidate, Ize-Iyamu who is banking on his popularity, political experience and grassroot support to enable him defeat Governor Godwin Obaseki come September 19.
In Nigerian politics, there is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy. In 2016, The erstwhile National Chairman of the All Progressives' Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole handed power over to Governor Godwin Obaseki as the governor of Edo State. During the campaign for Obaseki, Adams Oshiomhole composed a song that said Obaseki was "a winner and not a loser." He praised Godwin Obaseki to high heavens describing him as a technocrat and fit to lead the Edo people.
On the other hand, Pastor Ize-Iyamu then was in the PDP camp, and was contesting for the same position under the platform of the PDP. He was called all manner of names by Adams Oshiomhole, he was even described as a thief that was only looking for ways to loot and steal the treasury of the Edo people. After all said and done, the election came and Godwin Obaseki became the governor of the state. His relationship with his boss was moving on pretty fine, until towards the tail end of his tenure.
A lot of issues popped up between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his boss. These issues seemed irreconcilable despite attempts to settle the both of them was to no avail. The fight between both of them got so bad that they were no seeing each other eye to eye. In 2020, the table turned round for Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu and Oshiomhole. Obaseki who was once a darling and beautiful bride of Adams Oshiomhole has now become his arch-political enemy, while Pastor Ize-Iyamu who was once a thief and a condemned politician by Oshiomhole has now become a forgiven saint.
In attempt to frustrate Governor Godwin Obaseki, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole sided with Pastor Ize-Iyamu, brought him from the PDP to join the APC in other to help fight his prodigal son Obaseki. Adams Oshiomhole prior his suspension manipulated the APC primaries which eventually lead to the disqualification of Obaseki in the APC screening process, thus denying him the privilege to contest the election due to issues relating to certificate discrepancies. To save his second term bid, Obaseki truncated to the PDP with his deputy and was granted waiver to contest together with Philip Shauibu his deputy governor.
Though it is difficult to predict the winner of the Edo State election come September 19, but the point here is that it will spell doom forward Comrade Adams Oshiomhole should Governor Godwin Obaseki wins the poll.
